In Massachusetts, there are only two types of criminal background checks: one is conducted using a subject’s name and the other is made using their fingerprints. In this State, an employer cannot ask about the criminal record of a potential employee unless that person has been given at least a conditional job offer. All criminal background checks in Massachusetts have to be conducted using the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) database which keeps a record of all prosecuted crimes in the State. Before you can use this database, you will need to set up an account. The fee for each search is $25, additional fees apply for fingerprinting services when applicable.
