An Indiana criminal background check helps employers obtain information concerning a prospective or current employee. Criminal history information can be found on the Indiana State Police website. The ISP site is accessible to the public, but a criminal records search will be limited. This limitation is put into place so that individuals, employers, and CRAs (Consumer Reporting Agencies) cannot use criminal history information that is deemed impertinent to the subject’s qualifications for employment. An ISP limited criminal history search contains felonies and class A misdemeanor arrests within the State of Indiana. Criminal history information can be gathered by performing an online search or mailing in a Request Form.
Cost – $15 (subscribers); $16.32 (credit card); $7 (request form)

Step 1 – Background Check Authorization Form
The FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) states that employers must ask applicants to submit a Background Check Authorization Form to provide consent. Once signed, a background check can be performed.
