A criminal background check is the most popular type of report to verify the character of an individual. By law a criminal report may not list any activity of a person for more than seven (7) years unless it is a felony.
Banning the Box – There is a nationwide movement underway to remove the asking of prior criminal convictions on an initial job application when requesting candidates for a position. Therefore, it is recommended that when employers use a job application to request information from an individual that they do not ask questions about their criminal history (See Banning the Box Fact Sheet).
